Ten Industry Sponsors Show The Lightly Lads their Support!

In June 2018, two lighting industry legends and good friends, Simon Fisher and our very own Jon Estell, will take on an incredible challenge, all in the hope of raising money for three great causes. Simon and Jon will cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats, the furthest possible distance in the British Isles, covering 909 miles.

The ‘Lightly Lads’, as the duo will be known, are aiming to raise £20,000 for Moo Bears, Charlies Gift and Camps International charities. They will do so by raising funds via personal donations on their Justgiving page, as well as through corporate sponsorship.

To date, the pair have secured an impressive ten corporate sponsorships from the lighting industry – F Mark, Gamma, LED Lighting Solutions, LPA Lighting, Mackwell, Primelight, Reflektorlux, Ridi and Selux. All these sponsors have offered £1 per mile, which is an incredibly generous £909 per corporate sponsor towards the ambitious target total.

All three causes are very close to the pairs hearts, with Moo Bears, specifically helping a fellow lighting professional, Scott Callis and his family. Oliver Dean Callis was born on 6th of January 2013 with Downs Syndrome, sight and hearing problems and with four holes in his heart. Despite several serious episodes, Oliver has prevailed and is now 4 years old. His father, Scott has dedicated his life and profits from his business to making Oliver’s life comfortable and secure for the future, and the contribution from this ride will further help provide for Oliver’s education and future comfort.

‘Charlie’s Gift’ is a Hertfordshire based charity, which provides grants of money to support local children who face challenges in life because of health issues, special needs, bereavement or poverty. ‘Charlie’s Gift’ was set up by Trustees Nicole and Jason Fidler, in memory of their young son Charlie who died suddenly in June 2010, aged just 8 years from Anaphylactic Shock. The charities aim is to offer financial support to children whose lives are touched by adversity, living within Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, in the hope of making these children’s lives happier.

Simon and Jon discuss the route they’ll take down the length of Britain. The duo are aiming to raise £20,000 for good causes.

Finally, Camps International is a social enterprise on a global scale, with volunteers undertaking social and environmental project work in areas of both economic need and ecological significance. The charity works with communities, so they can empower themselves and generate income, they protect and conserve the environment, and transform lives by running global trips and projects to support those in need

Simon and Jon are now at almost 50% of their target total for this charitable feat, thanks to the support and generous donations of the industry and their corporate sponsors. There is still plenty of opportunity to support ‘The Lightly Lads’ either as one of the remaining corporate sponsors or as a personal donation, to help encourage the duo through the strenuous training schedule over the forthcoming months.

Of the funds raised to date Simon commented ‘We are totally overwhelmed with the support and generosity our industry friends and colleagues have shown us so far. We feel determined to achieve our target of £20,000 to support and secure the future of three very worthwhile causes’.

Jon enthused, ‘We have been training incredibly hard for the past few months now as the challenge date nears. We feel so honoured to be able to do something we love, all in the name of helping others. The level of support is phenomenal and its motivating us to train harder. We want to do everyone proud’.
